I've been meaning to make this thread for 6 months! I was in Finland and Norway for part of July and August 2013. Finland to visit family and Norway because Fjords.
I got to see the Finnish round of the WRC for the second time. I was there in 2004 as well.
We rented/borrowed a 1995? Mercedes C250 diesel. A nice car, but pretty slow without a turbo. And it left us stranded in Lapland when a cross-threaded glow plug freed itself from the cylinder head. It got about 40 MPG when running.
There was one rental car in town. A new MK7 VW Golf. Still not sold in the US! With a 1.2L TSI engine and a 6-speed manual, it got 47-57 MPG according to the in-dash display. It's not sold here, but you can change the display to US units! The engine felt similar to the 1.9L ALH TDI engine. It had an auto-stop feature, but I rarely used it since I would engine-off coast to a stop anyway. The electronic parking is really stupid. No good for playing rally driver!
