My new fuel saver

So while I have my escape for sale I kept my eyes open on kijiji to see if i can find my next car. it had to be small, simple, manual and cheap. I found quite a few civics for about 1000-2000 but I was a little scared spending 1500 on something that seamed to be in deacent shape but then when you acualy get it you find out it needs $2000 to get on the road.

I found this car (hopefuly the link works) 1999 Honda Civic Si Coupe - Windsor Region Cars For Sale - Kijiji Windsor Region Canada.

The ad sais it's an SI but i don't think so. It does have pw/pl cruise and sunroof but the engine doesn't look like a vtec motor so i don't know.

I got the car for $330 so even if it turns out to be in horrible shape i'll just scrap it or use it for parts.

Can anyone tell me where to find the engine code so i can check if it's an SI or not?

Thanks

Good deal. Congrats.

You can fix the deer damage yourself?

This is a sixth gen Civic. The engine code will be on the front of the block, low, to the left, beside where the transmission bolts on. BTW, I posted a link to a free copy of the 1996-1998 Honda service manual online here. If yours is a 1996-1998 it will be an excellent resource. Good luck!

[EDIT: I just noticed the engine bay pic... it clearly has the intake manifold for the V-TEC and V-TECe models.]

Looks clean inside and if the motor runs properly you got a heckuva deal. Damage looks easy enough to fix. Clean title means once you repair it the full value is restored.

If you don't care about painting that's a cheap trip to a junkyard. Fender, hood, light, bumper cover (if you even bother with that). Assuming nothing is tweaked and you can harvest all the connectors and fasteners from the junkyard car you could probably do it for under 500 bucks.

Hell if you've got the skills I'd almost be tempted to flip it. With the patience to find decent silver junkyard bits and a little time it could be a 2500-3000 dollar car if it's as nice otherwise as it looks.

I can see the Vtec solenoid in the photo so I see no reason to doubt that it's what it says it is, either way that's an insainly cheap car that is in great shape!

Now that is a bargain!

Here such car without damage would go for around 6000 and that is euros which is something close to $7900, so I'm bit more than little envy :D

Thanks guys, i ended up finding why i got it for so cheap.

It has a really bad oil leak when the engine is running. I haven't had time to find the exact location but it's coming from the back of the engine so it's kind of tight and can't see much. I'm hoping it's a oil line or something like that because it's only leaking when the engine is running.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Rear main (bearing) seal?

Ryland 03-20-2012 01:53 AM

The only thing at the back of the engine is the oil filter and the crank case breather box/oil separator, either of those should be a cheap fix, the oil filter should be a really cheap fix.
