Hey guys, Just figured, if there is someone on here with a Mazda 3, I'd drop a few tips for you. Not that its all terribly practical, but here is the Timing advance mod which is easy and a transmission swap to Euro diesel 6-speed all laid out, via links. Nobody has done it in a N/A mazda 3, however since the mazdaspeed 3 trans fits in the N/A 3 and the diesel gears fit into that trans...

Yes, the Mazda 3 and likely focus and other mazda/fords have a slotted timing sensor. free and easy.
Next, Transmission. This is not easy, requires likely an 05+ car, and abs/no auto w/o abs.
First, you need a Mazdaspeed 3 6speed swap:

That gets you from the G35m-r to the A26M-R.
Then, you need a EURO DIESEL transmission For the internals, and do this gear change over, starts at post 99, hard to get actual info here, sorry:

The Euro diesel for the 07ish mazda 6 and any a26m-r Mazda3 diesel will have the correct trans gears. The trans will not bolt up due to the clutch/flywheel and distance between them, the blocks being different, etc. So you need the Mazdaspeed 3 trans to put the gears into to bolt up to a 2.0/2.3. You do get an LSD out of this (don't lick it), which is nice.
