new to forum, looking for next mod

Hi, I have been something of an ecomodder for awhile. I particularly like diesels for their driving characteristics. My current vehicle is an 07 Jeep CRD cherokee 2wd with the om642 mercedes diesel. I have changed the axle out from a dana 44 to a chrysler 8.25 and in the process changed the final drive from 3.73 to 3.07. Additionally, I have added a tune by Green Diesel Engineering. I've done a few little aero mods and I have LRR tires. My best average fuel economy is about 28.5mpg in a mix of 70/30 highway/city driving.

What should I do next?

Lower it, bellypan, skinny tires, synthetic lubricants, change over to a manual transmission, lighten it up.

Another option would be a computer controlled CNG or LPG injection system. The goal is not to calibrate for extra power, but to help the mpg. Diesel Power magazine did an install on a Dodge dually with a Cummins and it really boosted the fuel economy. They used an MSD system. Go to their site or do a search and check it out.

During a Diesel Power Challenge, one contestant ran a CNG system on his Duramax powered truck and did over 40 mpg, another Duramax GMC pulsed his nitrous system and did 36 mpg ( on a 1400hp capable truck no less )

Look at some of the back issues online and you can see for yourself.

EDIT- Ok, the issue of Diesel Power you need to look at is September 2010

Matt Handwork, winner of mpg section of the contest, 45.58 mpg using a double regulator CNG system, 2003 Duramax Chevrolet pickup.

2nd Place, Dmitri Millard, mpg section of contest and overall winner, 2001 Chevy Silverado, 1212hp ( at the wheels! ), 6.90 sec in the 1/8 mile, 36.55 mpg pulsing low pressure nitrous system.

I already have synthetic lubricants throughout the drivetrain on all my vehicles. The manual transmission would be an incredible technical challenge since I'm working with new mercedes drivetrain. I have pretty new tires and this is my wife's daily driver. I read the 100 tips and I think some things I may start:
1. block heater on timer
2. pulse and glide
3. making daytime running lights optional
4.bigger intercooler-this could also be repositioned if I did a front bumper aero mod.
I don't know, I'm just not much of a fabricator with fiberglass and plastic. I'm so picky, I would want it to look nice.
