I’ve been wanting a recumbent trike for a while, but they’re so damn expensive... I bet it would make a really nice commuter though

I recently had the opportunity to ride behind a guy on a very nice recumbent trike. I had wanted one as well until that day. On typical New England country roads (narrow with pot-holes) this guy looked very uncomfortable as he was unable to avoid the bumps and unable to absorb them either. The best he could do was straddle the bumps between the dual front wheels and bounce over them with the rear wheel.

I was able to average 29.4 mph for 15 miles (30 laps) on the rough chip seal like surface fo the race track for 3rd place in my streamlined bicycle.

That’s about double what I usually average on my commute, wow! What was your highest speed? Just curious...

That’s pretty good for what I’m assuming is flat ground and a rough surface... is it very hard to achieve such speed with the streamliner as opposed to, say, doing 25 with a conventional bike?

Don't forget that you only start and stop once on a track run.

It depends who you are and what condition your in. Its all in the aerodynamics. It was a closed loop, elevation gain = 0, wind: head, both sides and tail. It would take 600 watts to go 25 mph on a conventional upright bike on the top bar, more with a mountain bike, I can cruse at that speed, < 200 watts.
