I never saw a newer metro get 50 mpg @ 70 mph. Mine wouldn't it got about 42 mpg @ 70 mph. That is awesome gas mileage.

I read your post, and I did some calculations on the last trip. The speed limit is 65 for 3/4 of distance and 70 for 1/4. I try to go as fast as possible with the scanguage reading as close to 50 mpg as possible. When the mpg drops, I slow down, when it rises above 50 I increase speed accordingly. The 252 miles took slightly under 4 hours: 63 mph average. This week I'll be making the trip again I'll take note of wind, time and speed. I also drive my 2000 civic hatchback on this run regularly over years I've reliably recorded between 38 and 42 mpg at similar speeds with same driving techniques.
