I'm Mike. I live in the SF Bay Area. I'm a Mechanical Engineer. I have a VW GTI. Premium is almost $4.80 a gallon around here. I've been blowing the dust of my fluids and aerodynamics books. In the long run, gas ain't gettin any cheaper.

Hi Mike,

I was wondering if you could recommend any fluids and Aero text books. I'm an EE and so sorry I didn't stay in school and pick up an ME as well. Any other books I might need?

Also, what class taught you about stresses in steel bars, brackets etc?
Would that be materials?

Thanks!

Probably the easiest way to save some money is to use regular gas. If your car has a knock sensor it should prevent knocking. If you do get knocking then drive with low throttle until you refill with premium. Maybe you can do something to reduce the maximum turbo boost pressure so it won't need to retard the ignition timing when you push hard on the gas pedal. Another possibility is to add a water injection system to improve operation with low octane gas.
