Bikes are fun, and good for an easy 2 mile trip. Too bad the majority of Americans won't ride. That and the majority of cities are too congested to use a bike efficiently, and the ones that are not are too far away to ride a bike.
It's not really a low spoke count. Deeper rims and paired spokes require fewer spokes than a conventional wheel. Fewer spokes = more aero and less weight.
My first investment on a bike like that would be lights. A flashing tail light and a headlight bright enough for you to see at whatever your fastest speed will be at night. I'm assuming that you already have a helmet. There are some crazy driver out there.
