new to EOC

Question about EOC. I thought most modern cars have DFCO. I don't have any kind of MPG gauge yet (awaiting appropriations committee approval) so I am unable to test this myself except tank-to-tank averages.

Would it be better to do EOC or DFCO? Does it depend on conditions?

Also, for us automatic transmission drivers, is there any wear on the transmission to be concerned about for putting it in neutral and back so much with EOC?

My house is about 300 vertical feet higher then where I work so I can do a lot of coasting. Currently leaving it in gear and relying on DFCO.

Yes, most cars do have DFCO. Yours does for sure. It's also more aggressive on autos than on manuals.

EOC (engine off) is always more efficient because no energy is going towards spinning the engine or accessories. If you can use the speed, EOC is the way to go. If you anticipate braking up ahead, you may as well use DFCO.

You'll have to find this out on your own. If your transmission bucks or shudders when you put it back in D, chances are it doesn't like it.

What I am unsure of is whether or not DFCO works on a cold engine.

I've experimented with it and it doesn't "buck and shudder" but it does give a muffled clunk going back into gear. More like I hit a small bump in the road but not bad.
