I just purchased a used Miles ZX40S, which needs batteries, and would like to contact other Miles ZX40 owners regarding their experiences with the use, modifications & maintenance of these vehicles. For example what has been your experience with battery charging frequency? My initial reading suggest that the batteries should never be allowed to fall below 80% charge if battery longevity is sought. Are BMS (battery monitoring system) useful add-ons? Any help/advice appreciated. I realize most post seem to be about converting or fabricating evs, so I hope my post isn't outside this venue. Thanks, oscar

Hello Oscar.

It all depends what batteries you're going to put in. But, in general the lower you cycle the batteries, the less cycles you get out of them. Lead acid batteries (I assume you're buying lead) should always be stored at full charge, so after every trip they should be charged. A BMS is nice, but not always absolutely necessary. At the very least you do need a voltmeter though.

Thanks for Advice & Welcome

Thank you Doax for your reply. The Miles ZX40S has a voltage display on the instrument panel so I'm good to go there! In my reading I have seen some recommend a BMS in order to better monitor differences in each battery's charge thus perhaps allowing the owner to "balance" (or replace) the weaker battery between the others. I don't yet know how one "balances" a battery; need more reading/searching. Again thanks. best regards, oscar
