A new milestone for me...almost

My wife and I took a trip to the beach this past week, started with about a half of a tank at 398 miles, the trip is about 200 miles each way and got to 692 miles on one tank, beating my record of 665 miles.

Used lots of eoc'ing and kept my speed down as much as possible, i know i could have gotten 700 but was really unfamiliar with the area and did want to get stranded, also our gps is outdated as far as gas stations and such.

Now funny thing is on thursday I was driving my father in law to get pizza for our dinner and my cel came on.

ScangaugeII told me misfire in 3 different cylinders and an egr malfunction!

but the car never skipped a beat, other then having a leaky oil pan gasket everything was going pretty strong, oh and i also removed half of my grill block as I thought I was going to have to drive my father and law home as his wife had to leave early for a dentist appointment, so that didnt help either.

Hopefully i can check her out tomorrow but now i just need to break 750!

this was all done on my 97 Honda Civic HX with 182K and a manual trans

From what I can figure a little closer to 60mpg regularly, and this tank was about 63mpg

I would love to get 65 or better regularly but anything is possible

Very nice. There was an episode of Top Gear where the challenge was to drive stock vehicles 700 miles on a tank. This was on a very mountainous route in mainland Europe. Very entertaining episode, but I forget the specifics. Pretty sure a Subaru diesel was involved.

When I had a bigger car with a bigger tank, I would use my tank distance to troll Civic owners when they were talking about their gas mileage in what I viewed as the 'wrong' way. That is, they were going 300 miles on a tank and getting about 30 MPG, while I was going 500 on a tank and getting about the same absolute mileage. Of course, all that meant was that, if we traveled the same distance per week (I generally traveled much more), they would have had to fill up more often, but we would have ultimately spent the same amount on fuel.

That wouldn't have worked on you, though. With some mods if I'd kept the Maxima, I probably could have caught up with you on the miles-per-tank, but I like having an efficient starting point better. Now, if miles per tank is your game, you just have to catch up with Diesel_Dave getting over 1,100 miles per tank in his Ram 2500. Congratulations, and here's to your continued success.

Also curious, what are your (major) mods?

The only things I have done at this point are upper grille block, 60 psi in the tires, from front seats back gutted; I had put the back seat back in for the trip, also no spare or tools in the trunk.

I did have a full lower grille block as well but removed the section that was in front of the ac condenser as I thought I was going to have my father in law in the car on the way home, but sadly removed it for no reason, as I didn't have to drive him home.

Also have a warm air intake, that def helps keep the power down, and mpg up!
