a2b car - '99 Subaru Legacy L Wagon

New from NY

Hi, I've got a good old 99 Legacy station wagon. I'm looking to turn it into a hybrid by putting an electric motor onto the input shaft of the transmission somewhere. In the process I want to build the motor controller myself using arduino, because $200 to control 6 MOSFETS is a little ridiculous when motor theory is ~100 years old. If anyone has opened up a Subaru 5MT help would be greatly appreciated in find a place for the motor.

I'm not 100 percent familiar with Suburu Legacy transmissions however I'm pretty sure the only input is via the engine.

As I recall, the Legacy is AWD so you actually have another option.

You may be able to modify the 5MT for front wheel drive only. I'm not sure how this is done, but it is possible.

then... use the rear driveshaft for your hybrid drive system.
