New Record for the red bomber

Just completed by first tank on my newly rebuilt engine on the red bomber: http://ecomodder.com/forum/fe-graphs/graph5035.gif

48.6 MPG is my new record. I can almost taste 50 mpg and hope to hit that this summer or as soon as possible. Check out my page to see what I've done to the car already and give me tips on how to push it over the top to 50. Technique is probably the biggest key.

For this tank I drove about 60% highway and 40% city including traffic, but shut it off during lights whenever it made sense. Neutral coasting at every reasonable opportunity. Shifting early as possible, getting to 5th around 40mph. One thing I notice is my new engine idles and uses .24 gallons per hour, whereas before it used .35 gallons per hour, so that's a huge savings in gas at idle.

Help me get to 50!

Jason

If its a manual don't do the neutral coast, you still use gas because DFCO is not on when your in neutral.
Rather do EOC that way its totally gas free, it would be advisable to make an injector kill switch rather then doing key off/on.

then how do you restart without excessive wear on the throwout bearing?

5th gear bump starts are easy on the parts .. the other option is a Start button should you feel so inclined.
My main point was that the key off/on is dangerous to the novice, in that they may inadvertently turn the key off too far and lock the steering wheel.
