New register longtime lurker
I have been casually modding my car for about a year, learning about various things that others have been doing, thought it was time to share some of my own.
I drive a 2000 corolla, 4speed auto, 385k km on the odo. I get about 500-700km per tank. My best is 5.9/100km on a 1200km trip from Grande Prairie, AB back to Langley, BC. That was before I had much more than a chin pan, partial grill block, and a fair amount of mechanical tuneup and cleaning done to the engine.
Mods so far:
Nose to sway bar belly pan
Front air dam
Grill block (except for a section along the bottom opening
Rear belly pan (tucked under and behind bends in the body, lobster scaled to reduce problems. The exhaust isn't covered up, I need more flashing to finish it.
Smooth wheel covers on the rear
Brake drag reduction clips
weather stripping and rubber (garage door D type) along all the cracks. Same with the headlights
Planned mods:
Side skirts in the middle and at the rear
finished bellypan
Rear wheel skirts
Smooth covers for the front wheels
block heater
Mechanical info:
synth 5w30, maxlife synth atf
I clean the throttle body and intake / pcv once a year
every oil change I drop some seafoam into the oil for about 100km to help reduce deposits and buildup.
I have done a piston soak with Marvel Mystery oil, plan to do another around the next oil change.
Replaced various parts here and there that just break with age. the CV boots and rubber hoses are still good. No rust but I have replaced many old bolts that might cause problems later.
Burns maybe 100ml per 1200 km now.
I tend to use absolutely every part of whatever I get for modding, leftovers and things I've found around the house. I do what I can to make it look stock or OEM. Everyone who sees my rolla doesn't even notice all the dumb things I've done to it.
Anyway, that's that. I'll post my non-destructive DIY work in other forums.
