Talking New from Rhode Island 02 Jetta TDi Auto

Hello All,

I'd like to post my first thread saying THANKS! to all of you for posting your experiences on here so that we can learn together without having to run every single test for ourselves.
That being said, I currently drive an 02 Jetta TDi automatic (wife wanted to be able to drive it LOL I think twice in 7 yrs!) 80 miles round trip to work and back.It has been very good to me. I'm a mechanic by trade so I really stay on top of it.
My past mileage was a dismal 550mi per tank (15Gal) and saw 300mi when dead on half.I have a scan gauge which I just got back from a friend, so I can get back to it! Now learning to drive the real way after being a lead foot for so many years.
As of yesterday on my scan gauge I saw 55.8mpg on the drive from work. 9pm started outside 35 degrees ambient,40mi trip 55-60mph average AI temp of 62degrees.
Next up moons or pizza pans if I can find them and might try to skirt the rear wheels.I will add my mods to my signature when I figure out where that is.... LOL

Smile I feel your pain

Yep, I know that situation.
Must have a car that the slightly driving challenged ( sorry Hunny ) must drive when she needs to so it must be an auto.

Welcome to ecomodder !

The TDis are frugal, though the automatic transmission will spoil quite a bit of the fun.
They'll be good to you if you're good to them - like doing regular servicing - but that shouldn't be an issue as a mechanic.

Seems like you've already done some of the common mods most folks on here have done.

Are those bigger injectors that you put in ?

Thanks guys!
euromodder, yes the injectors are bigger however I did see a gain in economy, believe it or not . The factory injector for the ALH auto trans is a .158mm and measures .138mm.The PP357 injector is a .184 (used in the ALH Std trans) and measures .185 . According to the info gathered from the web when I was researching injectors.

Woodeden - the kicker is when I bought a Rabbit conv std and showed her how to drive it. She drove away stop and go like a pro!! boy was I mad, not even a buck, chirp or rev!!!!

Doax yes it's a commute to me too.Especially considering this is the smallest state. I bought it when I was transferred to my new location and very glad I did.My truck is NOT a good commuter.
