Red face Another newbie

Hello all, I am just starting the adventure here. I have always thought there had to be a better way to get higher efficiency from our daily commuter vehicles and have seen many good ideas here. Hoping to get a few ideas for my 2012 Sonic HB. Thinking of building a kammback spoiler for starters. Seen one here that looks doable yet practical. It will be steel though as I can shape and weld that easy enough. Wish me luck.

Welcome to the forum!

The Sonic has a decent start for a tapering hatchback spoiler. It was noted around here when they first previewed the production version of the car (back when they were still calling it an Aveo).

The Spark rear spoiler is similar to yours, and they even made a slightly longer one for the electric version of the car to increase efficiency.

Did you get the 1.4t or the 1.8? Manual/auto? Make a garage entry for your car and start tracking your mileage so we know what's going on.

Well, i have the worst of the lot as I was stuck with what I could find at the time. It's a 1.8 auto. The first auto I have had as a daily driver in 20+ years, boooo. It is currently only getting about 33mpg as it is 10-20 degrees out, gets 36 in the summer. That is all cruising at or below the speed limits on the Interstate and 4 lanes usually on 35-80 mile commutes. I need to clean up the aero to get better mileage at these speeds. It is rated at 35 highway so hoping for 40-45 somewhat reasonably without getting run over on the highway.
