New Tesla M3 with the AST II Overlay
I thought it interesting that the Model 3 is faster than the template. I have a theory that if you optimize the front of the car and rear fender areas, you can go a bit faster in the back and not create added turbulence. I read that the claimed Cd is .21. GadZukes!!!
The back looks masterful.

Their goal is a Cd of 0.2-0.21, as far as I know. That has to be with side vide mirrors and the smooth flat wheels they showed on the matte black prototype. The wheel wells and their flush relationship to the wheels does look seriously good.
I wonder too, about the flattened nose is needed for lower drag?

Isn't the template overlay supposed to include the wheels ? Something like this :
Also, look at the plan taper. The rear fenders actually bulge out a bit, versus taper back.
And then there is the new Mercedes. Maybe there is a sweet spot to be had at a different angle

Subscribed for Elon goodness.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall for the styling / aero meetings at Tesla.

Cd 0.21
Just shooting from the hip,if we gave the M3 more conventional side-view mirrors and a worse case cooling system, the drag could come in at around Cd 0.26,same as a 2016 Mazda 6.

Tatra 77
I think the Cd 0.212 reported for the Tatra will be one of those numbers Hucho warns us about.
The Tatra 87 was measured in a modern wind tunnel and scored Cd 0.36,much higher than published in the late 1930s.
PS All the Tatras must be envisioned without their stabilizing rear fins, which from the side, confuse the actual roofline of the cars.
