But depending on how you decrease the electrical load, an underdrive pulley for the alternator (or a smaller alternator) is not bad at all

The more I look into it; unless the goal is to become an eco-warrior or extreme hypermiler, I think it's a zero-sum gain having to buy a special battery and use an external battery charger. Not worth the trouble to save a few nickels on a tank.

Becoming a moderate hypermiler wouldn't be so hard

If you'd keep the QX4 for a longer term, it would eventually worth to perform some experiences regarding weight-savings.
