Nissan Sentra S vs Sentra SE-R 2009 MPG

Hello,

I'm thinking about getting a Sentra 2.0 S 2009 or a Sentra 2.5 SE-R 2009. (Could be 2010)

My question is if I try to save gas with a SE-R, would I get a better mpg than a 2.0 S ?

Considering that the motor has more HPs, logically, it would cruise at a lower RPMs. (Right?)

Cruising requires very little horsepower, and the gearing on the SE-R is likely worse for fuel economy than the S, so I would choose the S. Or really, anything but the SE-R

The 2.5 is a thirsty engine, and the SE-R's spoiler robs FE. I'm sure you'll do far better with the 2.0. I also owned a 1996 B14 SE-R, and it could cruise at 72 mph and get 36 mpg with the 2.0 L engine. The 2.5 SE-R gets 26 mpg at the same cruising speed.

What is the real world mpg for a Sentra 2.0S ?

I've been searching the net, but could find only 2004 to lower years.

The US EPA's combined estimates are very close to what the average driver will achieve with any given car model. The EPA gives 27 mpg for 2009 Nissans with the 2.0 L engine and 6 speed MT, and 24 mpg with the 2.5 L engine.

A serious hypermiler can get 160-170% of '08 EPA combined mileage with a manual transmission car, so that's 43.2-45.9 mpg with the 2.0S, and 38.4-40.8 mpg with the SE-R.

I agree with you on that. SE-R has bad fuel economy compared to the Nissan sentra S. But I would still go for the altima because the nissan altima parts are widely available in the market.
