Not an MPG question but…

Hello everyone.

This isn’t really a MPG question, but more a search for information from the global collective we have here.

I am restoring a Triumph TR7 and came across a picture of a “dealer installed” option that was offered in 1976. (I have a 1976 Victory Edition) It was installed on what was called a Southern Skies TR7. It was a top rail sliding sun roof. If I could ever find one (very rare from everything I’ve read) I would add it to mine. The reading said that this style sun roof was popular on some European cars of the time, but don’t list any makes other than the London Taxi.

Does anyone here have any experience, knowledge, or other information on these types of sun roofs? Pro’s and Con’s, etc.

I’m always looking to learn more.

Thanks

These pictures are of a Donmar (?) aftermarket product that has long since been discontinued. Very similar. I’d love to find on in a salvage yard.

A newer powered sunroof would be great but the TR7 has limited headroom already. Losing another 2” (50mm) really isn’t an option.

This isn't some rare unobtanium, but it is available: https://azsuntops.com/sunroof/

Three different models, apparently.

Thanks freebeard, but those look like powered models that with the tracks and motors take up quite a bit of headroom. That is unless I’m missing something in that website. The Southern Skies and the aftermarket ones are manually operated and look like they slide in exterior tracks.

I was looking for an Arizona company that did folding fabric sun roofs (in the 1980s) and that is what came up.
