Had you seen the aftermath, you wouldn't. But anyway, now that many people and businesses use only cellphones instead of landlines, sometimes it seems quite dumb that internet providers no longer offer unlimited mobile internet. I didn't even get a landline when I lived in Pelotas, and the mobile internet I used was still 3G but it served me right, yet when I came back to Porto Alegre it was not so great because tall buildings blocked some of the signal, yet now with 5G
(and even 4G actually) it's much more stable.

I have never had a checkbook, paid for TV service, a cell phone bill (work provided cell phone), or a landline.
I'm constantly going over data limits for internet, partially because I work from home, partially because I've never paid for TV so everything is streaming.
Someday I hope to pay for a cell phone, because I hope to be self-employed. I had a government issued pager when I was 16 and working as an intern, and as such, have never personally paid for the inconvenience of being accessible to others. I make myself available here as a community service.

There are times when I listen to radio more often than I watch TV, last year I even spent about 5 months without TV at home, and took me 2 months to finally re-install the TV after I bought a new antenna
And some radios also do simulcast online, yet I don't tend to listen to simulcast online. I don't pay for TV either, not even for those streamings, yet I often watch a lot of videos on YouTube and other sites such as DailyMotion or Vimeo which eventually have some interesting stuff.

I listen to a lot of YouTube content. There should be a YouTube audio only option.
As I said elsewhere, I use broadcast TV about twice a year.

I have a Youtube addiction. Don't subscribe though, I have principles to uphold

"peedicting"?
I have trained the algorithm so the front page shows stuff that is interesting. I'd never have found Broken Peach on my own.

Nuclear Renaissance?
Japan restarting nuclear reactors they promised to shutdown.

Company that normally buys nuclear plants to tear them down wants to restart a 50 year old decommissioned nuke plant.

When asked why? The company said "They don't build them as they once did".

When the Angra 1 nuke was implemented, many people complained it resorted to "outdated" hardware which had already been decomissioned in Germany. There were fears of nuclear accidents, prompting the creation of a nuclear emergencies department in Brazilian Navy's Central Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The only time that nuclear emergency unit was effetively used was in the aftermath of the Cesium-137 incident in '87 which happened in Goiânia, totally unrelated to Angra 1.

They don't build them as they once did and we could stick new sensors, instruments and controls in them that were never available when originally built.
