OBD-II for Tinkerers

I have an old OBD-II interface that I am no longer using. Long story short, this interface is custom programmed for Subarus and has to be "married" to a single car. Unfortunately, the ECU on my car took a dump (due to dead battery), so this unit is, essentially, useless to its normal target audience. However, I know we have a bunch of electricians and tinkerers here, who might like to mess around with it and (possibly?) reprogram it.

Anyway, it's already prepacked and ready to go. All I ask is a prepaid shipping label, and I'll send it out ASAP. The box weighs ~2 lbs.

That is very generous of you !

Does it simply read the data on the OBD-II port ala Scangauge or does it have other specific functions ? Does it work on all Subarus ? I am somewhat interested since my parents just got a 2012 Impreza, but perhaps someone might need this more than I do.

Well, the main functions are to read from and write to the ECU. This is a Cobb Accesport (Version 1), and I don't know all of the technical specs. Cobb tends to be very closed-lipped about such things. This, as far as I remember, is only compatible with '04-'05 Imprezas, but there is firmware/software available to recode it for other models.

Either way, this isn't something that you'll be able to just plug in. It needs to be reflashed/reset before it can even be used for its original purpose. For people who have a car that this would work with, their best option would be to send it in and (hopefully) get a discount from Cobb on their current, Version 2 Accessport.

You can read more about the Accessport on their site: CobbTuning.com - AccessPORT
