This was on Just A Car Guy today:


door panels and center console pieces created with Precision Board PBLT-25 (25lb)

I think this is the same stuff Arcimoto use for their fenders and door panels. Thermoformed Urethane foam come to the masses.

Did they use a $250,000 five-axis router to create tooling from the 25-pound density board, from which they vacuum-formed the pieces?

Arcimoto use such routers to make aluminum forms for the sheets to be thermoformed over.





You can see a pallet of sheets in lower left. Upper left you have a yellow robot arm which will eventually take the formed sheet output and place it on a new machine to the left where it will be trimmed and holed with a CNC router. That station uses a less expensive form as it only holds position.
