Oh Yes They Did...... (VW XL-1 performance version with 190 HP)

Putting racing stripes on our Grail here, read about a 190 HP Ducati engine in the VW XL-1 Here Be sure to go to the linked Bild page for a photo.....Oh wait, here it is.

I think it looks sweet.

I agree. I would think there would be an aero help, but that may create too much downforce and friction on the front end. Cool.

With a car that light and that aerodynamic it was only a matter of time before someone took a plasma cutter to the economy powertrain and put in a potent engine for going fast

I like it in both trims but the advertised MPG of the "sipper" version is too tempting to buy the fast version...

So they not only yanked the more efficient engine, but also removed the rear wheel covers, added wider wheels and then flares on all four corners ?

There goes the CdA !

To me that's like taking a Bugatti Veyron and replacing the engine with a 4 cylinder Civic engine -

Blasphemy !

Did someone combine a Civic and a Veyron with Photoshop?!

Now, I want to see a Metro and a Bugatti! :P

I like it except for the mismatched wheels; but deep down I'll always be a Beetle fan.

Who knows where I found it. Possibly on The Bugatti Veyron…Beetle Edition - Carscoops.
Quote:
If you had any doubts that Bugatti belongs to the same group as the makers of the legendary Beetle, just take a look at this, admittedly humorous, but at the same time, high-quality digital rendering, from the creative minds at RC82 Workchop.

The Polish artist(s) incorporated all the design cues of the original (or classic) Volkswagen Beetle, from the deep-dish steel wheels and bug eyes, to the window frames and exterior door hinges, on the shape of the Bugatti Veyron hypercar.
https://www.google.com/search?&q=beetle+veyron lists it dozens of times, the first example being 1200x1920 on autoevolution.com.

You could totally get a Beetle that low:

It keeps it 'all in the family', but the development around the door pillar is weak. Imagine a smooshed-down Beetle roof on this:
