I heard my neighbor tell his wife they needed a weed whacker for the patch of grass around their porch, so I got out a grass whip and started on my side of the patch.

He came out, took it over and finished, and returned it. It was the right tool for the job.

In the 1980s when I had more lawn, I cut it with a scythe.

I give you Hippies a hard time, because everyone is deserving of criticism, but I find enduring qualities with most things.

Had it been that easy, would be quite good, but most folks are quite selfish, and would pass the responsibility on someone else when it comes to maintenance and other fixed costs.

In another century, I was a motor officer for a motor pool.

Shared resources need a lot more maintenance.

...depending on who is selected to share them.

I give everything I use back in better condition than I received it.

You're an oddity then. Like freebeard, i have done motor pool and the unreported damage is astounding. Then it's denied. One client, i resorted to taking before & after pictures before she ended up being restricted

For me it was petty stuff, drivers turning the fender-top front turn signals around so the red face was forward.

I think the 1500-mile U-joints on the M-151 was a design flaw.

Might have been. otoh, my dodge tradesman van liked to splash street water onto the rear u-joint. Failure rate was pretty high in a salted road winter climate until I covered it.
