I believe that the paint would be sand blasted off the car in that area due to road dirt.

Yes, wear and tear would be unbelievably high and also there are packaging concerns- where do the passengers' feet go? That's why the Insight has a very, very toned down version.

I think it's no longer done because aero-wise, it doesn't work as well.

Okay, Frank.

The GM Impact concept also had a touch of it. I imagine it was not practical to stamp that piece for the production EV1 (or maybe it was one of the many minor styling changes), though the 1G Probe has a bit of it too. No one seems to have done it as extremely as the 250 TR, but you see the principle put into practice multiple times on known aero cars.

I'd consider that huge Ferrari indent vs the leading edge radii on largely regular wheelwell openings ala EV1 and Insight I two different things.


We know that a relatively small leading edge radius promotes good flow downstream.

Don't see that Ferrari wheelwell treatment on ANY aero cars, concept or otherwise, right? Not at Bonneville either. It looks to me like a greater flow disruption than a regular wheelwell.
