I think the Forums have gone quiet. Maybe it's the weather. Most of the half dozen threads I have been participating in haven't updated, which is the reason I even had time to find this thread.
I don't know how to get statistics on the number of posts, I go by the number viewing each forum. As I write it's 58 in Ecomodding Central and 42 in Aerodynamics, which is pretty typical.

I'm not getting the modified bike trailer from your illustration. You're going to cantilever the trailer body and remove the wheel?
Have you looked at
christofoo's thread Project: ECOfamily Civic and its Aero Hitch Box? He's finding that the air gap between the rear of the car and the hitch-mounted box is problematic. Any extension should flow smoothly off the rear contours.
I think that for cost-benefit reasons a box cavity would give better returns. Your illustration shows you are aware that the bottom rear needs as much attention as the top. The ultimate treatment of a hatchback body is IMHO the VW GTI W12-650.
