source of mpg ratings of older vehicles?

Hi all,
It's funny; I was just thinking about an hour before I accidentally found this site that I wished there was an online forum dealing primarily with modifying vehicles for fuel economy. All the other ones I have joined focus on squeezing more power and speed out of vehicles which usually results in worse fuel economy.
Anyway, I have scoured the web for information on the MPG ratings of older pre-1985 vehicles. The fueleconomy.gov website only goes back to 1985, with some text-file downloads going back to 1978. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Jeff KP3FT

Hi Jeff -

Can't help you with your request. I suspect that you would have to rely on (unreliable) reviews and advertisements for fuel economy figures prior to the EPA data.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome from me as well. Enjoy your stay here.

The only place I can think of for that information might be car magazine road tests (Road and Track , Car and Driver etc).

Specific car models may be easier to get since some collectors have found that information even though it may not be on the net as general fuel related search.

Good luck with your search ,

Pete.
