Peak Oil... - reloaded

.

Peak oil has come and gone...???

Nope. not even close...

More than half a trillion barrels of oil and gas were reportedly found underneath Antarctica by Russia.

The scramble for Antarctica's black gold: How Russian discovery of huge oil reserves in UK territory has made Falkland Islands the 'world's most valuable real estate'... with Putin and Xi eyeing treasure under frozen seas

By the lowest estimates, the reserves found underneath the Antarctic, if properly extracted, would be enough to fuel the planet for more than 500 years.
Add in the rest of the worlds known deposits and we're good for several hundred more on top of that.

Abiogenic Origin of Hydrocarbons: An Historical Overview
The two theories of abiogenic formation of hydrocarbons, the Russian-Ukrainian theory of deep, abiotic petroleum origins and Thomas Gold's deep gas theory, have been considered in some detail. Whilst the Russian-Ukrainian theory was portrayed as being scientifically rigorous in contrast to the biogenic theory which was thought to be littered ...

Abiogenic Deep Origin of Hydrocarbons and Oil and Gas Deposits ...
Open access peer-reviewed chapter. 1. Introduction. The theory of the abiogenic deep origin of hydrocarbons recognizes that the petroleum is a primordial material of deep origin [Kutcherov, Krayushkin 2010].This theory explains that hydrocarbon compounds generate in the asthenosphere of the Earth and migrate through the deep faults into the crust of the Earth.

It isn't the quantity being extracted that's the problem. It's the rate.

' half a trillion '

There wouldn't be a planet to fuel, science-wise.
You could make enough plastic to fill the Eastern Pacific Ocean though, and I'd finally be able to drive to Honolulu!
