Global evaporation only depends on the life expectancy of the sun. In areas where sunshine is limited condesing water vapor is plentiful. We talk about China's coal burning power plants, but they have almost 3 times the hydroelectric capacity as the US. Is there an environmental cost? Of course, but the hydroelectric benefits, to me,far outweigh the costs. Hydro is also something like 90% efficient and the "fuel" source is as close to infinite and never ending as we will ever see.

Hydo 'power' is what keeps the Panama Canal going...at BOTH sides of the isthmus...Atlantic & Pacific...a result of Panama's HUGE annual rainfall.
