Pizza tray warning

Just thought I'd give you guys the benefit of my mistake, my car has 14" wheels so naturally I though I could cover them with 14" pizza trays.

I couldn't find 14" aluminium pizza trays in any of the local shops, but I found a trade catering supplier near my work, who agreed to supply me with just four trays. I picked them up today only to find that they are in fact 13.5" in diameter and the hubcaps on my wheels I was going to attach them to are 15 3/4" in diameter!

I'm now debating whether I should grab a cheap set of hubcaps from the scrappies and attach the trays and paint the whole lot black so you can't see the hubcap behind them.

Sorry for your problems with the trays. Reminds me of the first time I bought 2 x 4 lumber. Seems for years they have made them much smaller than 2" x 4" No truth in naming or advertising.

Yep, I learned awhile ago that the wheel diameter is at the tire bead, not the rim flange. Makes sense because that's how they measure the tire size, but quite confusing the first time!

What I've picked up from reading here, is that folks go up 1" on pizza pan size relative to their wheels.

So for a 14" wheel, you'd need a 15" pizza pan.

Maybe you can find someone on here who wants your 14" pizza pans for 13" wheels.

Ideally you'd measure your wheels and measure the pans before purchasing! Different wheels may have different size flanges.

Yes, I have a gap in my pizza pans too, but at least it's less than 1/2". I have multiple sets of pizza pans because of this. The current set I have is waiting to be replaced by any even better set that should close that gap (but me too lazy to doo eet right now).

I suggested publishing a database of pizza pan brands + *exact* sizes, so that people can buy with at least a better assurance that they won't waste their money.

I did some experimenting with pizza trays today.

Went to my local store, got a pizza tray (15.9 inch-diameter), 14-inch hubcap and a 14-inch steel rim. Assembled the whole thing in-store and it seems to be compatible.
