You can always change your carburetor to FI with Megasquirt. It will be much easier to pass any smog test with it, and to get better FE

If I have to go to that extreme I'll do a swap. Based on a five minute search, I think the only way to get past smog with a Megasquirt system would be to hide it or pay off the smog tech.

I'm currently looking into using a PLX or Innovate wideband system, but I think I will need to chip the ECU to do this. I am researching now what that will entail.

This is unfortunately turning from what I had hoped to be a relatively easy rebuild to a pretty complex undertaking. And that only because CA smog.

You may get more FE and put out less emissions, but it won't pass smog. It will show as "TAMPERED" and fail as a "GROSS POLLUTER", no matter how clean it runs.
