City - '04 Honda City iDSI EXi

Thanks: 3
Thanked 3 Times in 2 Posts
Car Info:

Car Make: Honda
Car Model/Body Style:City Sedan
Model Year: 2004
Engine Size: 1.5L 4 Cylinder
Transmission: 5 speed Manual

MPG Info (averages only):

MPG before hypermiling: 35 MPG
MPG currently achieved: 42 MPG

Specifics:

Location of primary driving (country/state): India/Uttar Pradesh/Noida,
Miles driven per year: Roughly 10,000
List all tools/techniques used to achieve current MPG:
1. Pump up tires to 50 PSI
2. Remove all removable weight from the boot, including spare tire
3. Use ICE-OFF coasting whenever I can, including city driving conditions (actually not very difficult doing this in city, as speeding opportunities are less anyways, so coast peacefully )
4. Anticipate traffic and modified driving to avoid momentum loss by braking
5. Accelerate like a Great-Granny (Was Granny-like in using throttle earlier too, but now it is worse ;-)
6. Never exceed 2k rpm
7. Used bump-starting >90% of starts from ICE-OFF coasting using that great technique posted by MetroMPG - feather touch in 5th to get the ICE going, then speed match and put in gear needed.

I started with a good 50/50 mix of city/highway to work... was getting a range of 30-32MPG (not driving ecofriendly on the highway)

started new job, all city and a "shorter" drive... FE started to drop down to about 25ish as the car doesn't reach operating temp for a good portion of the drive and that is with #200 worth of tools in the trunk and mostly "hill climbing" to and from work.

Hypermiling I've pushed my FE back to 28mpg and I think I have pushed it yet again to over 30... waiting on my next fill up, but my fuel gauge is showing more in the tank than I had last month with the same number of miles (hopefully that doesn't mean my gauge has stopped working right LOL)

Car needs a lot of fine tuning awaits to get the MPGs up for city driving, but hypermiling definately is helping
