Project: Dream CRX

Nah, vegan powa! is not going to be renamed "Dream CRX," but I guess getting the images of my new engine is a good enough reason to start up the official project report on it.

Go will be something over 60 MPG, which should be easy, right? However, I'm pretty pessimistic.

Anyway, pictures just sent from JDM Source, the engine supplier:

Who's got an EGR box for me?

MetroMPG 05-14-2008 04:27 PM

Good thing the Japanese are so automotively wasteful, so that us North Americans can benefit from all their low mileage used stuff! That motor looks neat & tidy.

SVOboy 05-14-2008 04:36 PM

They're not wasteful...if they put 30k on an engine in 12 years, I'd say they're driving very little compared to us. :p

LostCause 05-14-2008 10:48 PM

Nice looking engine. 30k miles in 12 years means their cars should last 60 years, easy...:p

Have you thought about losing the a/c compressor and alternator to shoot for 70+mpg?

- LostCause

reformed 05-14-2008 11:31 PM

That is a nice looking motor, hopefully I'll have a twin soon:D. Is that the LAF in the top of the manifold/converter?

SVOboy 05-15-2008 12:12 AM

I've never had the a/c (working, at least), plan on keeping the alternator. The engine is gonna come with lotsa extras.

@reformed - That is indeed the LAF there.

landspeed 05-15-2008 05:06 AM

looking good :) I'd like to get a CRX except here they are all rusty, or expensive, or running large VTEC fuel-hungry engines :(

SVOboy 05-20-2008 12:42 AM

Shipping punks actually want 115$ to unload the engine, so I'm going to delay shipment and get it with a few friends when I'm back from college. Stay tuned for updates!

Cd 05-20-2008 09:19 PM

If you were running SVO, it really would be a true vegan ;)

( Then you could get that bumper sticker that says " My car is a vegan " )

Too bad we can't convert gas engines like that.

Wow that sucks, there's always hidden fees somewhere!

I am now home, hopefully work begins on the morrow, in the mean time, prepping...

What is that stuff in the red box?

http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1212632082

Power steering?

digitaldissent 06-04-2008 10:46 PM

yes and, it would be pronounced "powa! steering"

SVOboy 06-05-2008 12:43 AM

Took that junk off already, picture updates on the morrow when it's not raining, :)

AndrewJ 06-05-2008 01:05 AM

A little rain never deterred a true ecomodder! ;)

Compaq888 06-05-2008 02:07 AM

you had me at the word "project"

SVOboy 06-05-2008 12:32 PM

Well, pictures look bad on the rain! Hopefully it begins when I come home from the doctor's, :)

reformed 06-05-2008 07:54 PM

You keeping the A/C?

Your pallet looks a little smashed too. Mine came with the engine hanging off the pallet (which was shattered) and the ties holding it on shredded my engine harness and destroyed some of the sensors too from being tossed around on the truck:mad: Hope you fared better in the shipping department, haha. Keep this thread live!

SVOboy 06-05-2008 08:06 PM

I think they lied to me about the egr control box? Anyone got one for sale? Tom? I'm a little screwed.

Anyway, new engine prepped to go in, old one almost ready to come out, just need to pop the axles and drop it off the mounts...

:)

I dun busted a boot:

Anyway, I think everything is off besides the shift linkage and mounts, we'll see about dropping the engine tomorrow morning and getting the new one in!

LostCause 06-06-2008 12:51 AM

I like how the first picture has the licensed plate blacked out, but the rest don't. So lazy...:p

How are you going to pull the engine? Do you have a hoist, are your pulling it out from under the car, or are you using a 2x4 and a couple of guys? Have you converted your harness to OBD-1 yet? Lastly, are you going to get your engine certified or is that not necessary in New Jersey?

I'm jealous. I wish I had prospects of 60mpg...

EDIT: I see the story continues. :o

- LostCause

SVOboy 06-06-2008 01:04 AM

I didn't think about it until I hit that picture...

I'm going to drop the engine onto the skateboard, jack the car up like mad, and roll the engine out.

I've been obd1 for a while, cuz I wanted to play with chipped ecus.

Not necessary in jerz, :)

Kaneda 06-06-2008 01:12 AM

im also in the beginning stages of a HF crx build. my goals are 1400lbs, full interior, stock appearance, and 70mpg, on modded rebuilt engine 1.5L.
good luck:D

SVOboy 06-06-2008 01:14 AM

You can do it, just check out coyote's metro build, :)

SVOboy 06-07-2008 05:46 PM

Update, got some questions:
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...2464#post32464

SVOboy 06-08-2008 08:28 PM

The way I'm planning on doing it introduces a little kink into the fuel line between the filter and rail, is this okay or should I go out and buy a new line?

SVOboy 06-08-2008 08:44 PM

Can anyone confirm that 18 is the egr control box: http://estore.honda.com/EPC/images/p...SR33B1305E.png ?

Majestic has it for 45, so if so, I wanna order it tonight. Ideas?

how are you going to eliminate 400 lbs?

SVOboy 06-08-2008 10:06 PM

Current issues (making a list for myself):
-fuel line
-driverside mount
-a/c wiring
-a/c in car
-o2 sensor

More to come...

SVOboy 06-09-2008 09:47 AM

Anyway, current progress...

This is how I got the motor out:
http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1213018944

More or less where I am now:
http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1213018944

Now, a question...seeing as how I'm eliminating a/c, which part of this can I get rid of? Are both fans for the rad?
http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1213018944

Thanks all

Daox 06-09-2008 01:24 PM

I'd say the smaller fan is for the A/C.

SVOboy 06-09-2008 02:15 PM

That's what I was thinking...so I can rip it off, yeah?

88CRX 06-11-2008 12:10 AM

I can't wait to see the improvement you get...

Has anyone ever performed this swap?

socalsuperhero 06-11-2008 12:21 AM

I'm in the midst of doing this same swap with my 90 hf right now. Just waiting on a few more bits and pieces. Planning on doing the swap next weekend.

socalsuperhero 06-11-2008 12:23 AM

To address your drivers side mount issue, yank both crank pulleys and timing covers. That cast iron bracket will come of d15b6 block and swap over to the z1.

SVOboy 06-11-2008 12:25 AM

Yeah, I know I can swap it, just gotta get around to doing it...

Waiting on a few parts, and all that, should be done when the mail shows up.

SVOboy 06-12-2008 08:59 PM

Almost done! Wiring is all done except for one wire, any help on getting that one: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3034 ?

Thanks!

Yep. I've done it many times.

Where did you find your EGR box? I didn't realize I would need one.. unless because I have a civic I already have the right one maybe?

SVOboy 06-12-2008 09:28 PM

Nah, you don't have an egr thing...I found someone on honda-tech and paid out the nose for it, :(
