10 Commandments of Hypermiling

Something on the lighter side...

This is based on 100+ Hypermiling tips. I summarized them to my top 10, the "10 Commandments of Hypermiling" (roughly in order of importance):

I. Thou shalt slow down.
II. Thou shalt keep a record of thy mileage.
III. Thou shalt use a fuel mileage display.
IV. Thou shalt look ahead.
V. Thou shalt drive such that the use of thy brakes is minimized.
VI. Thou shalt plan thy routes carefully ahead of time.
VII. Thou shalt check thy tire pressure and keep them high.
VIII. Thou shalt not go through drive-thus nor shall thou idle excessively.
IX. Thou shalt not make trips thou dost not have to.
X. Thou shalt not haul around stuff thou dost not have to.

Anybody else have their own list?

Does the list really have to be written in Amish?

Someone had mentioned in another post - it's the nut behind the wheel. Just for S and G's I started to pay close attention to how I drove my Corolla to work and my MPG went up about 3 MPG's... then it became an obsession!

Thou shalt not waste time accelerating. Acceleration wasteth fuel.

Love it.
Except for the order of the Commandments, that's pretty much my list.

Now all we need is a prophet who comes coasting down a mountain to start spreading the new religion
It'd be nice if he could split the standing water on wet roads as well.

The beard is okay, it's the moustache that has to go.

Since the original 10 commandoes also includes a few jokers in the deck, why not:

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors 32-mpg Corvette, nor his WVO lawn tractor; neither his shapely maid-servant bicycling to the grocery, nor his hunky man-servant running the flywheel apparatus to charge his landscape-lighting batteries.

Wrong prophet.

He'd change water into pollution-free diesel. I am the Light, and the Right-of-Way . . . .

.
