That's not really that bad, as recalls go. The iMIEV still has regenerative, and a faulty pump still leaves you with braking if you push down hard enough. And then there's the handbrake.
I've driven a car forty miles to the shop on a busted brake line. After it went "pop" at triple digit speeds (km/h or mph, take your pick). Good thing I always plan ahead when braking, so I had plenty of space to slow down and stop on the handbrake.
$169 on lease with no down is fantastic. I pay more than that every month for gasoline (not including maintenance and amortization on the current vehicle), so it works out, though some of those trips do exceed the projected range.
