out with the truck in

with my new car

sold my 1981 toyota 4wd
got me a 2012 mazda 3 i hatchback touring 6 speed manual.
2.0 skyactiv motor.
rated 31 combined and 38 highway.
im 350 miles into the first tank. reset the avg mpg and trip on first fill up. was with the guy who filled it up.

im at almost 39mpg.
i have drove it to work a few times and a few other people have drove it.
i have hit the red line a few times.
does 2500rpm at 70 mph

the car almost has a full belly pan. most of the grill is blocked. it specs at 36 psi in the tires on P205/55R16 all-season radial tires.

still getting use to the car. give me a few tanks to learn it. it coasts like what seems forever to me.

first and second are short geared. and i seem to accidently chirp 2nd a few times at 3k rpm shifts. and even third once on purpose.

and the payment(0.0% interest), insurance and gas is cheaper than the gas in my truck.

and me and my sisters
went from two white jeeps to two blue mazdas.

I'm at 480 miles and still have a dot over a 1/4. It says 180 miles till empty. Still on my first tank and went to work 4 days and drive around
Displays says 39.5 mpg.
I've never had that high before. Can't wait till a few thousand miles. And hit 45-50 mpg.
Goal is 54 mpg. But for now just beat the cm400

filled it up the first time. but i think i am wrong.

because the day after i bought the car, i brought it back for them to wash it. when i bought it i was in a hurry to go to work. well the crew takes lunch from 12-1p and i was done at 12 and had to be at work at 130p, so they told me to stop by the next day, so i did.

but i only put 10.3 gallons in it for the 525miles i drove
which is 50.9 mpg
the display read 38.9mpg.

but if i plug in the car lot to work, work to the one stop i made, and home then back to the lot it gives me 130 miles on google maps following the path i drove.
so if i subtract the 130 from my 525 miles = 395 miles / 10.3 gallons of gas.
gives me 38.3mpg.

so i think they gave me a few extra gallons.

should i log that or wait for the next tank?

Major bump here, but Taco, I do not like you :P

I've been wanting a Mazda 3 or CX-5.

I was able to pull 39mpg out of a 6 speed CX-5 on a test drive (which wasn't bad for a new vehicle). The 6 speed manual they use in those (both the 6 and cx-5) is perfect, as far as I'm concerned.

Never drove the 2wd cx5. Did see a white one when i bought the 3 But my sisters auto awd managed high thirtys on a trip to south Carolina. I know the display was like 41 after a lot of 55-60 mph drive down there. But she gets like 29 running around here at 70-75 mph.

But I was in my jeep and filled up at bad times. After a lot of city. Keep seeing about 26-27 mpg. But the city dropped it big time.

The six speed auto kinda reminds me is an automated manual. Smooth fast shifts.
But I took a mpg hit in the 3 for the clutch. I think i made the right choice.

I've tested a manual cx-5 and auto mazda-3. I like both the automatic and manual.

The whole locking of torque converter at 10mph is wierd.
