Question Ram air on carb = bad fuel economy?

I have a 1988 1.3l carb mazda 121 (ford festiva). I changed the radiator in it, and in doing so i had to remove some of the inlet snorkle. The opening for the air filter is now directly behind the grill, which gets lets of air passing through.

So would this hurt fuel economy as there is more air being pushed through which means more fuel is sucked through?

Below is a pic of a normal air intake snout, 2nd pic is mine in current condition.

Thanks.
