Wiki shows the height at 53-53.2. The race car would be lowered with lower profile tires also.

Okay, that's 28.23 sq ft minus ~15% = 23.99sq ft. Still significantly higher than the 21.8 estimated by Car & Driver. Adding the high wing probably adds a bit less than another sq ft to the frontal area; and wide tires and lowered suspension reduces the 15% factor, so I think their number is too low.

A 4" drop gets it right there. I don't know if C&D was measuring a Street version or Track ready car. The one in the video is race ready looking.

Changing the ground clearance doesn't change the frontal area very much - only the exposed tires change, and the 15% guesstimate is reduced. The only real way to measure the frontal area is to take a photo with a long lens and scale it accurately and trace it in CAD.

Daytona frontal area

Neil,I have the December,1988 CAR and DRIVER road test here,of the 1969 'civilian' version.C & D give the dimensions as:
*Wheelbase..............................117.0 "
*Length.................................. 226.5 "
*Width..................................... 76.6 "
*Height.................................... 53.2 "
*Frontal area............................ 21.8 " (which would be 77% of the gross area)
*The greenhouse on the Charger is quite narrow compared to the main body section, and with fairly aggressive tumblehome,so,the 77% seems reasonable.
*Marcell and Romberg didn't supply any parametrics on their car other than the 6.5" ground clearance.
*NASCAR allowed the oil pan to be lower.
*And they allowed the exhaust to be even lower.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Usually each year,If I can make the Pate Swap Meet out at Texas Motor Speedway,I'll see a Daytona. They seemed really 'large' to me when I was in high school, but now they seem 'tiny' compared to my memory.
PS The Chrysler Proving Grounds is just outside of Ann Arbor where CAR and DRIVER is headquartered. And I presume that their data was provided directly from Chrysler. They usually mention if they're estimating values. And Csaba Csere, their technical editor at the time is a stickler for accuracy. He's an MIT guy.Very Smart.

Looks like really low speed air flow to me.
