Rear Wheel Covers (skirts), off to a good start...

So this weekend, I figured I'd get my cardboard+duct tape skills on and fab up some quick rear wheel covers. I threw a splash of red on em, to match(ish).

I did a trip that I did just a week before, applying pretty much all the same methods. End result was 10MPG more on my scangauge... now, before we go OMG!, there is something to note. When I P&G (which I do just about everywhere), I do engine off, and the scangauge goes to 9999MPG right away. It constantly says considerably higher numbers than I actually get (I hit over 50 on that thing all the time on tanks I get in the low 40's, for instance)... but it's usually fairly consistent.

The little bit of city driving that I do day to day... about the same result: around 10MPG higher! Again, not true MPG, but no doubt higher gains.

To top that off, I noticed I'm quite a few more miles than usual on my tank according to the fuel needle.

Some things to consider, though, is it is a bit warmer the last few days. Though, I'm talking some record breaking MPG despite (even over most further warmed temps).

I can only assume a few things here:
1. My wheels are not very aero (no covers yet)
2. My rear bumper is a parachute

I realize it's pretty early to come up to the assumption that these rear wheel covers are amazing, but was just curious on what some of you guys found on your own covers. I would have done this ghetto wheel cover setup long ago if I would have known it could yield so much potential...

BTW: For those who haven't noticed my car's mods before, I sure have gotten a TON of looks and questions from various people since doing this! The best one so far is "Your car looks like the bat mobile!" lol

According to the wiki, the average rear wheel skirt addition gives about a 2.5% increase in fuel economy.

I have been planning this for a while with the Mustang, polycarbonate covers, and magnets- but testing eBay magnets from China is a long and tedious task.

Nice work, if this is your "ghetto" preliminary model, I am excited to see your final edition.
