Regulators to require rearview cameras in cars
Regulators to require rearview cameras in cars - San Jose Mercury News
Great. Punish everyone by making them pay for equipment they neither want nor need because some jackholes lack situational awareness and/or have chosen to drive something too gargantuan for their skill level.
On the bright side, mirror deletes will get easier.

Law makers have plenty of money to buy whatever they want regardless of how expensive it gets.

However, in a preliminary version circulated for public comment, regulators predicted that adding the cameras and viewing screens will cost the auto industry as much as $2.7 billion a year, or $160 to $200 a vehicle. At least some of the cost is expected to be passed on to consumers through higher prices.

Not some. But all cost will be passed on to the comsumer.

Oddly enough, you can buy the camera and display on Amazon for about $40. And when you consider that most automakers are including displays anyway...
Now if they'd just make the cameras legal replacements for mirrors...
