removing (some) red light cameras in schaumburg

..maybe, the town president looked at the numbers and only 15 out of 800 collisions were caused by traffic signal violations, cameras are not improving safety as intended and are viewed as harassing citizens and visitors: [Schaumburg, IL] Red-light camera loses backer | POI Factory

The village became concerned because the intersection -- which has a median separating through-traffic lanes and right turn lanes -- gives motorists the impression they're in a controlled right turn lane and don't have to stop, Howerton said.
We have some like that. If they really wanted to make it safer, they should put in a green arrow.

Personally, I don't mind cameras that monitor whether people stop for red lights*, but I wish there was more of a push toward lights with countdown timers so that people can know exactly how soon they'll be changing. Those countdown lights have been a game changer for my cycling, since I endeavor to ride lawfully and predictably.

* Speed cameras can **** right off, though.

Look closer and you'll probably find that the actual viewing & processing of the camera info was done by a second-party contractor, NOT by an actual Police Officer, which basically makes the whole process "non-legal," although sometimes a police officer will be called in to review the second-party contractor's "ticket list."
