The quote in the middle of the page says the bi-wing lowered drag but provided no additional down-force.

Pretty much what we want in this forum, right?

Wish I was able to find a wind tinnel image of the Merkur XR4Ti

Bet something even higher up would have worked even better. A third wing or roof wing as it were.

Nice find, thank you for posting it.

Here is a roof wing I've never seen before.

Looks large enough to work, and in undisturbed air stream too.

BMW ring wing

Here is a 1975 Bimmer with a combo setup alongside a 2015 racer which didn't use one

With it's stretched out roofline, the BMW M1 apparently didn't need the ring wing

The 2016 BMW 1975 BMW Homage car retreats to the ring wing

Side view and wild paint job - 1975.

https://drive-my.com/en/social/dashb...shtag/CSL.html

Quote:
BMW is rightly proud of its collection of #Art-Cars and they’re regularly exhibited around the world in art galleries, but while it is happy to take the plaudits for the range of artists it’s commissioned over the years the first Art Car wasn’t actually a #BMW creation after all. The car you see here was actually commissioned by a wealthy French art dealer and part-time racing driver, Hérve Poulain, after he purchased a Group 2 racing #CSL from BMW Motorsport to compete at Le Mans. He then persuaded his friend, sculptor Alexander Calder, to paint the car in order for it to be a moving work of art at the #1975 24-Hour race.
A wing as seen below on the roof of a pick-up truck. What would be the likely outcome?

wing on truck

*if it's an actual airfoil, then it could add some downforce at that point on the chassis.
*other than that,I wouldn't have a clue.it's nothing like what Texas Tech researched.

I spotted this roof wing the other day.

Not sure if we can tell anything from the dirt pattern after the wiper has been used though.

Another angle.

The middle spar appears to be quite disruptive, did it have to be so wide?

Here's the Sierra variant

Here's a comparison with the XR4Ti

Ford claims Cd 0.32 with,0.34 without.
On a pickup you'd want some sort of tonneau cover for the flow to reattach to,as on a notchback car. This is how Chrysler can get it's Dodge RAM 1500 to Cd 0.36.

Looks like a squareback wake,in which the entire rear of the car is exposed to the base pressure and turbulent wake
