Running tally of cost of my Golf diesel.
I can't edit the first post in my Golf thread, and it'll be more likely to be seen here, anyway. All prices USD unless otherwise noted. This will include money spent for any reason besides fuel, oil, filters, etc, even if the part wasn't used. The purpose of this thread is to give an idea of the money one might spend fixing up a similar condition classic VW diesel.

Refunded $150 by the company from eBay that I bought the strut kit from, because of a discrepancy which escalated further than I would have liked.
Pd. ~$40 for 2 Strut mount kits from RockAuto.com. Got them in a few days.
Car is about 5.5 inches off the ground now.

Got Herbie inspected, cost $28.
Found some more rust that may end up causing trouble... I don't like doing rust repair, so I may not end up keeping Herbie after this inspection unless I can get it decently fixed enough to pass again next year, or find a cleaner chassis to swap the diesel into, or find a project to fit it to, like a 2000-ish Dodge Caravan, or an AWD Subaru Legacy... I have one of those already, but the Subie needs a bit of work, possibly a new transmission/axles/whatever.

I have his videos somewhere. His account was deleted because of legal drama not involving engine swaps, not to be discussed here.

Great mileage I see your turbo does not appear factory. Do you think the intercooler improves mileage?
