Salutations!

Howdy!

New to this site. I'm sort of a hybrid.

We drive an SUV and an Accord. We do enough towing that we can't get away without a bigger vehicle, but we try to be smart about it.

Anyway, always looking for ways to be more efficient.

One of my best stories actually comes from the SUV. On a trip we take often, which normally requires an extra fillup (because we are towing), we made it all on one tank of gas. We slipped in behind a relatively slow-moving tractor trailer on the highway and hung on his bumper for almost 2 hours. The result was an incredible savings, even while towing!

Thanks! Those tips are a great read!

and...sorry about the 'drafting' thing...I noticed it after I started this thread. Although I believe I was following at a safe distance, just benefiting from a slow mover (people were mad at the trucker, not me), and enjoying the wind break.

Welcome to EM! I try to follow the 2-second or 3-second rule, but I also like to follow "turtles" to lower my average MPH for better MPG. It's a win-win, because the people behind me can't get mad at *me*, and I in turn protect the turtle from their wrath.

win-win

Welcome to Ecomodder forums!

I enjoy drafting with my Honda Accord as well. I use ScanGuage II to see quick increases of 5 MPG when behind a SEMI.
