ScanGauge and Oil Life

Is it possible for the ScanGauge unit to display percent oil life left? I know my computer reports it because my on-star subscription sends me a monthly email with engine diagnostics and oil life percent remaining.

Thanks for any help.

I just looked through my Xguage list again and found it on page 5 of this pdf. But it's for GMCANSF cars...whatever that is?

Try contacting Dan or Hobbit. They're both wizards of Pruis-Scangauge communications.

I am assuming this would be for armycopter's Aveo. Armycopter - Let us know if the Xguage works on your Aveo for "oil life"...interesting info to monitor as it's not a measurement of quantity (as in fuel) or engine performance (as in power) rather a measurement of quality.

If you get a chance could you post the performance portion of your email from on-star...I'd be interested to see how they quantify that info to their customers and what other diagnostics they monitor.

That would be a proprietary PID. So unless the manufacturer made the info available, it can be hard to find out which PID it is and how to interpret the information returned.

Unfortunately, the code from the .pdf did not work. The Xgauge doesn't return anything.

The onstar system returns a lot of information. Basically it runs some sort of on-board diagnostic system on the entire car. Some of the info I receve includes engine (throttle control, fuel control, air induction, ignition system, etc), transmission, emmissions, airbag, electrical, onstar itself, mileage, oil life, and more. It also lets me make phone calls, ask for directions, and get help if I crash. It's free for the first year. I'm not sure if I'll renew when my year is up.
