scanguage vs. garage scan tool?

I have a check engine light. I'm 95% sure it is my EGR valve gummed up again, but i suspect o2 or maf/map (whichever my car has).

I consider this a great excuse to buy a scanguage, but how does it compare with a shop code scanner? Same thing? Features missing? Scanguage costs about the same as a mechanic for 2 hours... i don't like letting people touch my car.

Shop scan tools costs thousands of dollars and pretty much do everything for you, the Scangauge just tells you the code.

I would go ahead and buy one but you can get your code scanned for free at the parts store.

Sssshhhh!! don't tell the wife that!

What do you mean "they pretty much do everything for you?" They have the actual code lookups for each vehicle? They make repair suggestions? They hold your coffee?

You could bring it to Autozone or Advance Auto, they'll check the code for free.
