I did it once.
Once.
I think it worked out to 70.9 sustained over 7 hours 45 minutes, covering three stops (fuel & food, not police) and NYC traffic when an area bridge was out. It was a brutal, glorious day. Gas mileage? I probably never got worse.
Definitely not for the faint of heart and not something you casually embark on, regardless. Any trip that you can realistically sustain high speeds on is too short for those speeds to save you any meaningful amount of time. Simply not screwing around is going to save you more time (and fuel, etc.) over the long run than pushing things that hard.
