smog and registration after engine swap?

Hey everyone, been reading a lot from the site lately and I think ill be selling my 07 mini cooper (maintenance is too expensive for a student :/ ) and pick up a 88-91 crx. I'm going the route of putting a civic vx engine in to it I believe.

I was just wondering when all this is done, is there any extra steps to complete with smogging or registration? I know lean burn may not get by smog in california so ill remember that but any other thoughts or concerns I should know?

If I remember, putting an engine from a later model car into an earlier car will not have problems with smog provided that all emission controls from donor vehicle are transferred over. There should also be something online that can explain swap regulations in California for cars in your age range ( since it's pre OBD I ).

looks like all should go well as long as I equip the lean burn mods after the car is certified by BAR and smogged
