So it begins...HCH Gen 1

My first aero mod on the Civic. The big trick here...see how long it takes for the wife tears it off. We will see if it helps with mpg. So here are some pics...
This is the material used...

Here is a profile of the material

I did a little trimming to make it fit better

I believe that whatever was originally under the front of the car is long gone, along with the cover under the motor and half the inner fender splash shields.

And here it is finished!

So we will see how long it lasts and if we get some improvements!

Rob

Looks good. It also looks pretty low. How high is that off the ground?

I did not measure it, but it is pretty low. I may cut the round off the bottom of the edging to gain back a little bit of clearance.

A couple strategically located "torsion" springs BEHIND that edging might help.

...provides both stiffness against air pressure, and flexibility against curbs, parking blocks, etc.

Tele Man, is that a Pontiac tri power in your avatars?

Also, the clips might be a good idea, especially if I cut the circle off the edging. I am sure without it the thing will get very flimsy.

looks great! Looks extra low because of the grass, not sure what Texas roads look like but I'm guessing that warm climate means that you don't have the pot hole problem that we do in the north. I say just drive it and let the road do the trimming for you, if the wife asks just tell her not to worry about it and turn up the radio if the scraping bothers her lol

No, it's a MoPar 340 6BBL...in the 1970½ Plymouth AAR 'Cuda that I once owned.

After seeing your signature I quickly realized the error of my ways. My apologies for the insult! My first thought with the color was 440 6 pac, but i didn't see a distributor.

I had something like that on one of my cars, I put it on there 1/2" off the ground in hopes of reducing lift on the front end at high speed. I also had plumbed in brake ducts and wanted them to get the most air possible.

It did noticeable reduce the sound of the wind on the freeway and seemed to have less front end float at speed. I kept it that way for months unitl I got tired of the looks.

No offense taken. Yep, the "small" A and LA-engines had distributor in back (like GM) while the "big" B and RB-engines had distributor in front.
